Allergen Immunotherapy and Asthma
Allergy and asthma are often closely linked, and the treatment of allergies can have a positive impact on asthma symptoms. Allergic asthma is a common type of asthma triggered by exposure to allergens such as
-
pollen
-
dust mites
-
Animal dander
Allergen immunotherapy, is a medical treatment designed to reduce the symptoms of allergies, which in turn, can improve asthma control.
You may require multiple treatments if you have more than one significant allergen. It is given via injections (subcutaneous) or a tablet, spray or drop under the tongue (sublingual)
How long do the results last?
You should start to experience improvement a few months after starting therapy and results of a full course should be long-lasting or permanent.
Cost of allergen immunotherapy
Allergen immunotherapy is not currently subsidised on the PBS, our team will discuss the cost with you carefully so that you can make an informed choice.
